Aftercare

Thank you for getting sparkled! Proper care helps your sparkles last as long as possible. Your hair type, texture, and daily routine all affect retention time.

How long will it last?

1

Hand-tied tinsel typically lasts 2 to 8 weeks, depending on your hair, routine, and how often your hair sheds.

  • Fine or silky hair may have shorter retention

  • Thick, textured, wavy, or coarse hair often has longer retention

  • Natural shedding is expected

  • Not every strand will last the same amount of time

Because the sparkles are attached to your natural hair, they will shed when that natural strand decides to fall. This can happen in the shower, while brushing, or during styling. Blow-drying, heat brushes, and tight-tension styles may cause strands to shed sooner by adding stress to the hair. Very fine or silky hair, especially on children, may have shorter retention.

Brushing & Root Care

2

Hand-tied tinsel is secured to 1-2 healthy hairs. Gentle brushing is important.

  • Support the root with your fingers when brushing

  • Brush from the bottom up

  • Avoid aggressive brushing of the scalp

  • If you feel a snag, pause, hold the root, and brush gently

washing

3

  • Wash your hair as usual

  • Avoid scrubbing harshly at the scalp

  • Wet hair sheds more easily, so brush gently after washing

  • Keep heavy conditioner away from the roots to help prevent loosening of the knot

Heat & Styling

4

Tinsel is heat-safe up to 375°F.

  • Keep hot tools at or below 375°F

  • Avoid placing direct heat on the knot

  • Use gentle movements when curling or straightening

  • Round brushes, heat brushes, and blow dryers can increase shedding due to added tension

Sparkle Clusters & Feather Extensions

5

If you received sparkle clusters and/ or feather extensions, follow these additional guidelines:

  • Clusters and feathers are secured with a micro bead at the root

  • Avoid pulling or tugging at the bead

  • Support the root when brushing near the bead

    • This is very important! Remember, microbeads are attached to multiple hair strands rather than one strand. If you are not gentle while brushing and styling, you could rip out your natural hair strands where the bead was installed!

  • You can wash your hair, keep heavy conditioner away from the bead area

  • Heat tools are safe as long as they do not touch the bead

  • As clusters grow out, the bead may loosen and slide out naturally

  • If the bead does not slide out on its own, it must be opened with pliers for proper removal. DO NOT try to pull it out of your hair if it’s not easily sliding off.

Shedding & Refills

6

Seeing tinsel fall out is normal. Most people naturally shed 50 to 100 hairs per day, so hair and tinsel loss is completely normal. For a fuller, refreshed look, consider booking a refill every 3 to 4 weeks.

Curly Hair

7

Hand-tied tinsel blends best with naturally curly hair because it is lightweight and attached to a single strand of hair. How well they blend depends on your curl pattern and styling routine. When doing your normal curl routine, include the tinsel strand in the same section of hair you are styling, and finger-coil or shape that section so the tinsel follows the curl pattern. Let the tinsel stay in the curl clump instead of separating it. This helps the strand move and curl with your natural hair. If a tinsel strand sits straighter than your natural curl, you can curl that section of hair with the tinsel using a curling iron to match your curl shape.

Sparkle Clusters and Feather Extensions are heavier than a single hand-tied sparkle, so they will not naturally curl with curly hair, even with product or finger coiling. To blend them with your curl pattern, you will need to use a curling iron. Wrap a section of your hair and the cluster or feather together with a curling iron so they shape together and match your natural curls.
